Dr Hüdai Kara BSc MSc DPhil MIMM
Dr Hüdai Kara is a founder and Managing Director of Metsims Sustainability Consulting based in Oxford UK and Istanbul, Turkey. He has over 20 years of combined experience in resource efficiency, low carbon sustainable technologies, critical metals research in the energy generation supply chain, carbon footprint and management, LCA, materials security, renewable energy, waste management, and research and development covering industries from metallurgy to materials, from chemicals and energy to building.
He is an expert LCA practitioner and trainer. He has assessed environmental profiles of many products using LCA, which are internationally third party verified for Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). He is the Chairman of the Technical Committee of the International EPD System and EU PEF Technical Advisory Board.
A materials scientist by training, Dr Kara’s key expertise lies in the techno-economic and environmental evaluation of sustainable products and technologies. He is an expert LCA practitioner and trainer. He has completed over 100 building products LCAs for over 150 third party verified EPD certificates. He has also verified so far over 70 EPDs from all around the world on many different products. He is an expert in ISO 14040/44, ISO 14020-25, ISO 14067, ISO 14064, GHG Protocol standards and EN 15804 norm.
Dr Kara is an expert Evaluator for assessing projects for EU research and development funding streams including Horizon 2020 (FP7), Eureka, Eurostars, Cornet and Eco-Innovation for the European Commission. He worked as Research Fellow on smart materials at Bath University, as Senior Scientist at Johnson Matthey Technology Centre on materials and process development and as Technical Consultant at Oakdene Hollings advising DEFRA, DfT, WRAP and many private clients on sustainability, materials security, critical materials, resource efficiency, carbon and waste management.
He is the author of over dozens of scientific papers in refereed journals and presented in many international conferences. He regularly writes on sustainability and sustainable development issues in an industrial journal. Dr Kara is one of approved verifiers for the International EPD System and ZAG EPD Scheme, and also acts as EPD System verifier for ECO Platform.
Dr Kara has Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
