Metsims collaborated with EUROPUR to develop PUReLCA, a custom LCA software that enables polyurethane manufacturers to assess the environmental impact of their products and supply chains. Designed to be fast, affordable, and third-party-verifiable, PUReLCA helps users generate cradle-to-gate carbon footprint data, simulate material alternatives, and produce verification-ready reports. As of mid-2025, seven EUROPUR members are actively using the tool to enhance transparency and benchmark performance across the industry.
The challenge
Polyurethane foams are used in various end-user industries such as construction, automotive, furniture and bedding. These industries face market and regulatory pressures to decarbonize their value chains and incorporate sustainability in product design. EUROPUR members are increasingly expected by their customers and other stakeholders to improve supply chain transparency and provide product-specific data on the whole life cycle environmental impact of their products.
Our solutions
We worked closely with EUROPUR to develop a custom software (PUReLCA) that enables users to assess product and process impacts through a standard set of methodology, assumptions and data quality indicators, which can be used by other users as inputs into downstream process to quantify impacts across the value chain. PUReLCA enables members to: Quantify environmental impacts quickly, affordably, and independently without compromising on accuracy. Identify hot-spots and simulate alternative materials in a secure environment. Build a virtual supply chain to quantify the impact of finished products. Produce verification-ready outputs, such as Cradle to Gate Product Carbon Footprint and Life Cycle Assessment reports.
Impacts of project
Since June 2025, 7 EUROPUR members are using PUReLCA to quantify their value chain environmental impacts, benchmark performance, and identify data gaps.
