Sustainability Priorities and Regulatory Landscape

EU requirements increasingly connect food companies to upstream traceability and downstream waste performance. The EU Deforestation Regulation covers cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood and specified derived products; under the current timeline, due-diligence obligations apply from 30 December 2026 for larger operators and from 30 June 2027 for micro and small operators. The amended Waste Framework Directive (EU) 2025/1892 requires Member States to achieve by 2030 a 10% reduction in food waste from processing and manufacturing and a 30% per-capita reduction across retail, food service and households, compared with the 2021-2023 annual average. PPWR also affects food packaging, while corporate climate programmes increasingly need FLAG and wider Scope 3 emissions.

Product footprints should distinguish biogenic carbon, land-use change and agricultural emissions carefully and use crop- and geography-specific data where material.
