Dr Hüdai Kara, founder and director of Metsims Sustainability Consulting, has more than 20+ years of experience in climate change strategies, carbon and energy management, low carbon and sustainable technologies, life cycle assessment, renewable energy, waste management, research and development in industries ranging from metal and materials industries to chemical, textile and energy industries, mostly in the UK. Dr Hüdai Kara, a materials scientist, has obtained Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certificates for 300+ products through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies and revealed the climate change risks caused by companies and their products through carbon footprint calculations. Dr Hüdai Kara, who was the chairman of the International EPD System technical committee board in the development of the EPD issue and is still a member, is also a founding member of the European Union ECO-Platform. He is the first and only expert from Turkey to be selected as an EPD verifier on behalf of The International EPD System, EPD Australasia and ZAG EPD Programme Operators due to his LCA/EPD expertise at international level. He has expertise and practical experience in Building Materials LCA/EPD Database development (TurCoMDat, UKCoMDat). Dr Hüdai Kara is also the project director for the establishment and development of the Turkish Sustainability Code ESG reporting framework system and project manager for the Turkish Life Cycle Database (TLCID), which will be an important infrastructure for the EU GreenDeal policy, revealing the environmental performance of products manufactured in Turkey. Dr. Hüdai Kara, who regularly acts as a referee for EU research and development framework programmes Horizon 2020, 7th Framework (FP7 NMT, Env.), Eureka, Eurostars and Eco-Innovation project applications, has 20 articles published in international refereed scientific journals with a total of 1250+ citations (h-index:14, i10-index:16). He holds a BSc and MSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and a PhD in Materials Science from Oxford University.
