In order to combat the global climate crisis and limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C, the world expects Net Zero commitment from companies. Net Zero Journey .
The Net Zero expectation is to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere to zero. Although it may seem difficult, it is not impossible that we did not achieve this goal with supply chain optimization, R&D studies related to production, and decarbonization projects that will take place in all sectors until 2050.
The most specific criteria for Net Zero target have been published by SBTi. Although there are different approaches according to the sectors, 90% decarbonization is targeted in many sectors. Carbon neutralization activities can be used for limited emissions that cannot be prevented when near-zero emissions are reached.

Basic Requirements to achieve Net Zero
Determination of the base year with a complete calculation
For the selected base year, a detailed picture should be taken with a complete calculation including all topics of scope 3, and emission sources of high and low importance should be identified.
Determination of emission reduction points
Short and long term targets should be set together with potential mitigation quantities
Net Zero Target
After achieving the long-term target, neutralisation projects should be identified for the parts that cannot be reduced.
Follow-up and progress reporting
Metsims Approach and Support on the journey to Net Zero
With its expert staff, extensive process knowledge and many internationally valid emission database infrastructure, Metsims can calculate 100% compatible with ISO 14064 and GHG protocols, as well as additional sectoral guidelines. The base year is created with strong calculations valid on all global platforms, which will form the most solid basis when determining the company’s goals. With our infrastructure with many licensed and premium databases, we have a pool of more than 40 thousand emission factors, and we provide full support to our companies under scope 3 categories.
With our expert staff coming from different disciplines who have knowledge of their production and processes, and their long years of experience, we are able to offer company-specific emission reduction suggestions. It is possible to evaluate and phase in a wide perspective from alternative raw materials to supply chain optimization, from logistics improvement activities to reducing the impacts of the use phase.
Metsims provides support to companies from calculating with a holistic approach to determining emission reduction projects and establishing a follow-up infrastructure.

What is a Net Zero Journey?
A Net Zero Journey refers to the collective efforts of individuals, businesses, governments, and other entities to transition towards a state of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This journey involves reducing emissions as much as possible and offsetting any remaining emissions through actions such as carbon sequestration or investment in carbon removal projects, with the ultimate goal of achieving a balance between emissions produced and emissions removed from the atmosphere.
How can organizations embark on a Net Zero Journey?
Organizations can embark on a Net Zero Journey by first assessing their current emissions across all scopes (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources, indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy, and other indirect emissions such as those in the supply chain). They then develop and implement strategies to reduce emissions through measures such as energy efficiency improvements, transitioning to renewable energy sources, adopting low-carbon technologies, and enhancing operational practices. Additionally, organizations may engage in carbon offsetting activities to compensate for emissions that cannot be eliminated.
Why is the Net Zero Journey important for addressing climate change?
The Net Zero Journey is crucial for addressing climate change because it represents a proactive and comprehensive approach to mitigating the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions on the planet. By transitioning to net zero emissions, individuals, businesses, and governments can contribute to limiting global warming, reducing the risk of catastrophic climate events, and preserving the health and well-being of current and future generations. Additionally, the Net Zero Journey presents opportunities for innovation, job creation, and economic growth in sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable transportation, and green technology.
